Count Iceland in!

The Significant Bank Database just got even better with the addition of Icelandic banks! This latest update brings three new banks: Arion Banki, Íslandsbanki, and Landsbankinn. All three banks are included in the database for the full 2009–2023 sampling period, providing an even more comprehensive look at the European banking landscape.

An interesting fact about Íslandsbanki: it’s the successor of Glitnir, the bank that expanded rapidly before collapsing during the 2007–2009 financial crisis. Following its refocus on Icelandic operations, the bank returned to its original name, Íslandsbanki. Fun fact: Glitnir operated under that name for only a brief period, from 2006 to 2009.
